Surgery and technology

Mr Angunawela and Ms de Benito are also some of the few surgeons in the UK to offer laser cataract surgery and use the Catalys laser. Corneal collagen cross-linking for keratoconus is performed with the Avedro rapid system and is combined with laser surgery.

Mr Angunawela BM, MD, FRCOPhth, FRCS, Cert LRS is a Consultant Eye Surgeon at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London where he is a specialist in cornea, lens and laser eye surgery. Mr Angunawela is a dual corneal and refractive fellowship trained eye surgeon and performs a comprehensive range of surgeries including laser cataract surgery, multifocal lens surgery and laser eye surgery including LASIK, LASEK and trans-PRK, Visian ICL surgery and complex corneal transplantation including DMEK for Fuchs' dystrophy. Due to his broad experience he is able to offer a choice of treatments that serve the patient best.
Ms Laura de Benito MD, MRCOphth, PhD is a NHS Consultant at Moorfields Eye Hospital where she is a specialist in cornea, cataract, lens and laser eye surgery. Ms de Benito graduated top of her year at medical school and has been a consultant for 12 years. She is responsible for corneal transplant outcome monitoring at Moorfields Eye Hospital. Ms de Benito completed her PhD research into corneal healing after laser eye surgery. She is an internationally recognised expert on this subject. She completed her fellowship training in Spain and at Moorfields Eye Hospital. She performs a comprehensive range of surgeries including multifocal lens surgery and laser eye surgery including LASIK, LASEK and trans-PRK, Visian ICL surgery and complex corneal transplantation including DMEK for Fuchs' dystrophy.
