Romesh Angunawela

Still trying to decide which laser eye surgeon to choose?

Here are 10 things to consider

1. Direct one-2-one care from a Specialist Consultant Eye Surgeon at Moorfields Eye Hospital

You'll enjoy direct care by your surgeon at every stage of your care, from your first to last visit. Your surgeon is responsible for your care throughout your laser journey and is perhaps the most important factor to consider when choosing where to have vision correction surgery.

2. Safety! We don't just do laser eye surgery!

When all you have is a hammer, everything starts to look like a nail!

Unlike some clinics, we don't just offer laser eye surgery. The fact is that not everyone is suitable to have laser eye surgery and some patients may get better results with a different technique or shouldn't have surgery at all. The ability to offer alternatives means that we don't have to push the safety limits of laser eye surgery when treating higher levels of prescription. Mr Angunawela also offers the VIsian ICL for very high levels of short sight and clear lens extraction with multifocal lens implants for older patients with reading difficulties. This means that you'll be presented with the pros and cons of the various options available for your particular case, rather than just being offered laser eye surgery.

All surgery takes place at the main Moorfields Eye Hospital by Mr Angunawela with professional hospital staff and environment.

3. Cutting edge laser technology

Moorfields Eye Hospital is a flagship centre for the latest laser technologies - Intralase IFS 150 femtosecond laser, the Schwind Amaris 1050RS with Peramis  - allowing us to perform state of the art laser eye surgery in London. Uniquely, unlike many smaller clinics, we upgrade our lasers every 2-3 years to ensure that we offer the best state-of-the-art laser eye surgery .

4. What you see is what you get!

We don't have confusing tiered pricing. There is no up selling. We have one price for all patients and only perform the most technologically advanced treatment  - Wavefront Intra-LASIK/LASEK or transPRK. Whats the point of offering anything but the safest and best ?!

They're your eyes! Why compromise?!

5. Speed & Accuracy

The IFS 150 and the Schwind Amaris 1050RS are the fastest lasers available. The IFS 150 makes a LASIK flap in just 14 seconds, whilst the Amaris corrects even high levels of short or long sight in a matter of seconds.

Subtle eye movements occur without your knowledge and when you breath. The 7 dimensional eye tracker on the Schwind Amaris is the most advanced current tracker and measures your eye position over a 1000 times each second. It can adjust the laser path in one three thousands of a second to compensate for even the most subtle movement. It even predicts where your eye will move to next. Amazing  technology!

6. Better astigmatism correction

Astigmatism occurs when one direction of the cornea has more power than another. The result is a defocused image. Astigmatism treatment during  laser eye surgery with the Schwind Amaris laser is highly accurate and compensates for rotation of the eye that occurs as the patient lies down and accurately delivers laser pulses on the axis of astigmatism by using state-of-the-art iris registration technology.

7. Pioneering no touch laser eye surgery in London

Nervous about LASIK laser eye surgery? We have pioneered TransPRK no touch surface laser eye surgery in London. No instruments touch the eye during this procedure. No touch, no flap, but the same great  results as LASIK.

8. Excellent results

Our results are second to none. We are governed by Care Quality Commission standards for clinical governance and regularly audit our results to ensure that our patients get the safest and best possible standard of care. Read our testimonials.
