Ms Laura de Benito Llopis

Ms Laura de Benito MD, MRCOphth, Phd, is a consultant eye surgeon at Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Trust where she is a specialist in corneal transplant, cataract, lens and laser eye surgery. She graduated with honours at the top of her year at medical school. She did her Ophthalmology residency at the Gregorio Marañón University Hospital in Madrid, Spain. She was fellowship trained in cornea, lens and refractive surgery in Madrid and at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London. She was awarded a PhD with honours for her thesis on corneal wound healing after laser eye surgery and is considered an expert in the field of surface laser eye surgery (LASEK and TransPRK). Dr De Benito-Llopis obtained her PhD in laser surface eye surgery (LASEK and TransPRK) and wound healing control with honours at the Universidad Complutense, Madrid.


Ms de Benito has worked as a consultant in a number of different countries since 2005 - as head of corneal refractive surgery at Vissum Madrid Spain, at the Singapore National Eye Centre, at St Thomas’ Hospital London and at Moorfields Eye Hospital where she is clinical lead for cornea transplant outcomes. She has published over 30 scientific research papers. She is an invited speaker at a number of international conferences and teaches on national and international surgical courses. Ms de Benito is a member of the Royal College of Ophthalmology as well as the European and American societies of cataract, cornea and refractive surgeons.
